Further Cuts for the West Midlands Police Force

Posted: April 22nd, 2015

The home secretary has announced further cuts to the West Midlands Police of £23million as the government continues to balance the books. Despite years of austerity it’s a credit to the West Midlands Police Force that despite cuts they have actually managed to reduce crime in this period.

The Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson has announced that they will receive a greater share of Council Tax moving forward of 1.99%. Already it’s estimated that Council Tax contributes 15% to the overall funding of the West Midlands Police Force.

Moving forward a greater shift will be to tackling cybercrime as the world changes. A greater proportion of resources will need to be spent on training officers and preparing them for the latest challenges ahead.

This will likely lead to fewer officers on the street as the face of crime changes. Businesses will have to take a greater responsibility in the future for ensuring that they are not targeted by criminals. This will include installing physical security such as security grilles, roller shutters, security doors and window bars.
