The West Midlands Police recently shared an article which should be of interest to all homeowners. It detailed what a burglar would be looking for when targeting a property.
This included:-
• Empty Home
• Easy Access to rear of building
• Trees and high bushes for cover
• No visible signs of protection
Furthermore it listed the hardware which it felt were necessary for a more secure door. Back doors should be fitted with morticed 5 lever deadlocks and front doors should have a viewer or door chain.
Many of the precautions suggested are pretty straightforward and inexpensive however you’d be surprised how often they are missed. Such as cancelling subscriptions and milk when you go on holiday. Asking a neighbour to collect your post whilst your away is another good idea to make sure it looks as though someone is home.
