Phone Courier Scam in Upton upon Severn

Posted: April 7th, 2015

West Mercia Police have urged people to be aware of an ongoing problem in Upton upon Severn whereby individuals have been targeted by a courier.

An elderly man has recently become the victim of this with him being scammed out of more than £5000. They had called prior claiming to be from Barclays Bank and then managed to gain his card details.

It’s important to remember that banks will never ask for account details or PINS over the phone. If you encounter a line of question which moves onto asking for these details it in all probability will be a scam whereby someone’s trying to claim your details.

The scam has evidently looked to target the elderly so the police encourage anyone with older relatives who might fall victim to warn them and remain vigilant.
