The substation was situated next to a busy housing estate and had been fitted years previously. After an independent inspection it was determined that the current door was inadequate and would need to be replaced.

It’s at this point that Security Doors Direct (Trading name of Security Care) was contacted as a specialist in steel security doors.

After speaking with Peter we at first decided on quoting for a UKPN specification Steel Substation Door. However after it became clear that the client wanted to keep the current dual padlock locking arrangement we came up with an alternative solution using a heavy duty hasp and staple which would more effectively meet the requirements of the client.

Originally the project was quoted on a supply only basis however after it became clear that the installation would not be straightforward it was agreed that Security Care would carry out the installation.

At the survey we did indeed find that the door in situ was not fit for purpose. The current door was manufactured from lightweight fibre glass and had fallen off its hinges. Importantly it was no longer providing adequate safety or security for the residents.

The installation itself went ahead without any significant issues. The only slight trouble was the sheer size of the doors making them more awkward to manoeuvre than a standard sized door.

We pointed up the internal brickwork and finished off around the edges of the door with a neat bead of water resistant silicone.

HVMS were very pleased with the end result (as pictured above) and were more than happy to sign off the project as completed. Three months down the line and there has been no problems with installation reported.
